Don't feel bad--my husband and I heard this joke about a dozen years ago from a very drunk man in a bar, and for a couple of minutes both of us assumed that he was so drunk he'd left something out. We had to repeat it to each other a couple of times...goes to show what programming does to the way we hear things, hm?
Walking down a Los Angeles street in a pea-soup fog, our hero walked into a grey sandstone building ... Groping for the door, he steped inside. From Nick Danger, Third Eye (The Firesign Theatre)
